The American tennis player Serena Williams, former world number one, is admitted to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, after having undergone emergency surgery for a pulmonary embolism.

The American, 29, visited on several occasions hospital last week. His representative, Nicole Chabot, confirmed the health of the smallest of the Williams sisters. "Serena Williams on Monday underwent emergency surgery for a hematoma he sustained as a result of a treatment to a critical situation," the representative said in a statement released exclusively to the magazine 'People', which includes Europe Press.
Chabot said that Serena had been last week, "pulmonary embolism" the back to Los Angeles after being in New York seeing a specialist to fix the foot injury which is away from the tracks from his triumph at Wimbledon.
The representative also said that doctors are "monitoring the situation to avoid complications." Williams, currently eleventh in the WTA rankings, had to undergo two operations on his foot and was planning to return to competition in the short term.
